British companies Kraken and Capewell, with support from the Navy, have executed the world’s first deployment of an unmanned boat onto the water from a military transport aircraft.
This is stated in Kraken’s press release.
It is reported that the K3 SCOUT unmanned boat was parachuted from an A400M aircraft at an altitude of approximately 400 meters. The tests were conducted with the support of the Royal Navy as part of the Beehive program.
According to the company, the demonstration confirmed new capabilities that enable the rapid delivery of unmanned boats to areas of maritime conflict or hard-to-reach maritime regions.
As part of the test campaign, four live airdrops were conducted over six working days using the same boat and platform.
During the tests, Kraken’s K3 SCOUT airborne deployment kit was used in combination with a modified delivery platform based on Capewell’s V-Type parachute system.
Once it touches the water, the K3 SCOUT is immediately ready for missions. This deployment method can enable covert or rapid deployment of unmanned maritime boats to combat zones.
In November 2025, it was reported that U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) had awarded a $49 million contract to the British company Kraken to develop prototypes of surface and underwater unmanned vehicles.
The vessel is 8.4 meters long, 1.93 meters wide, has a draft of 0.8 meters, and a maximum displacement of 2,500 kg.
It is equipped with a diesel engine with a stern drive, capable of reaching speeds of up to 55 knots (over 100 km/h), has a range of 650 nautical miles at 25 knots, and can operate autonomously for up to 30 days, depending on the mission.
The maximum payload is 600 kg, and the hull is made of composite materials to reduce weight and detectability.
The K3 SCOUT is designed with stealth technologies and supports both fully autonomous operation and operator-controlled remote control.
The platform is built on the Auterion operating system with an open architecture, enabling integration of third-party systems, sensors, and weapons without significant design changes.
The platform’s stated missions include maritime reconnaissance, patrolling, protecting naval formations, engaging maritime targets, supporting special operations, delivering cargo, evacuating the wounded, countering UAVs, conducting electronic warfare, and employing kinetic and non-kinetic weapons.
