Belarus Runs Mobilization Drills in the Grodno Region on the Border with Lithuania and the Baltic States

From June 17 to 26 in the Grodno region (which borders Poland and Lithuania), the Belarusian Ministry of Defense is summoning conscripts to practice “issues related to the mobilization of citizens and vehicles within the region.”

The Ministry of Defense’s Telegram page reported this.

Between June 20 and July 2, approximately 2,000 reservists from the Oshmyany District will be summoned “for a roll call and verification of registration data” at the conscription center.

Reservists are being called up for military training exercises, during which they will “improve their military knowledge, familiarize themselves with weapons and military equipment, and learn to carry out tasks assigned by exercise commanders.”

This process is taking place simultaneously with a comprehensive drill on the use of nuclear weapons, training of operational command, and transfer of technological equipment to the Russian military-industrial complex.

The mobilization may be linked to the Russian Federation’s campaign, launched this year, to pressure Belarus into the war and potentially open a new front in the north of Ukraine.

Among the demands being discussed by Lukashenko and Russian Ambassador to Belarus Boris Gryzlov is a provision regarding operations against NATO countries.

Representatives of the Belarusian opposition, the United Transitional Cabinet of Belarus, confirmed this process and submitted a detailed report to the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stating that the Lukashenko regime is systematically preparing the country for possible participation in the war.

Back in May 2026, the Defense Forces conducted large-scale security measures along the border with Belarus, involving the SSU, the Armed Forces of Ukraine (ZSU), the National Police, the National Guard, and the State Border Guard Service.

In addition, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi commented on the formation of new brigades amid a potential invasion from Belarusian territory.

The deployment of Russian Iskander-M nuclear warheads as part of Belarusian nuclear forces’ exercises also creates conditions for escalation and the opening of a front.

On June 22, it was reported that the repeaters used by control stations for long-range drones on Belarusian territory to direct strikes against Ukraine had ceased operations.
