The Security Service of Ukraine and the Defense Forces have launched large-scale, enhanced security measures in the northern regions of the country bordering Russia and Belarus.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported this, noting that the measures are being performed in accordance with a decision by the Supreme Commander-in-Chief.

The General Staff emphasized that these actions are unprecedented in terms of the number of forces and resources deployed in the border areas.

Units from the SSU, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the National Police, the National Guard, and the State Border Guard Service have been deployed to the operation, which is coordinated by the Anti-Terrorist Center under the SSU.

The measures cover the Chernihiv, Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Volyn, and Rivne regions.

The main goal is to prevent the infiltration of enemy sabotage and reconnaissance groups, subversive activities, terrorist acts, and other threats in border areas.

Planned actions include enhanced checks of citizens, vehicle inspections, and searches of specific areas and premises to detect prohibited items.

The SSU warned that during these operations, there may be temporary traffic restrictions in certain settlements, document checks, and additional control measures.

These actions are taking place under martial law and are viewed as a preventive measure to deter potential aggressive actions by Russia and Belarus.

Particular emphasis is placed on the northern sector, which remains a potential risk zone due to its proximity to Belarus, a Russian ally.

Despite the absence of signs of an imminent offensive, the scale of the forces deployed indicates the Ukrainian command’s heightened focus on protecting the border from potential hybrid or sabotage threats.

Ukrainian security forces previously conducted counterterrorism exercises near the border with Belarus.

As previously reported, Belarus and Russia will conduct exercises on the use of nuclear weapons on Belarusian territory.
