A series of domestic Predator REBOFF fiber optic strike FPV drones has been codified for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
The Ministry of Defense reported on this.
In various modifications, the drones fly at different ranges and are equipped with combat payloads of different purposes and weights.
The Defense Ministry noted that the Ukrainian company 3DTech became the first domestic developer to successfully complete the codification procedure for its fiber optic unmanned aerial systems (UAS) line.
The REBOFF Predator FPV drones have fiber optic coils ranging from 10 to 20 km long. The development of the UAV began in 2023 in response to requests from the Ukrainian military.
“During testing, the drones successfully overcame water obstacles (rivers and lakes) and flew over power lines at speeds of up to 143 km/h,” the Ministry of Defense said.
In 2024, the first test batches were delivered to the military, demonstrating the potential for scaling up production. Today, 3DTech manufactures five models of fiber optic drones, which are supplied to the Defense Forces.
Designed to repel assaults and for urban combat, with an effective range of 8-9 km. The drone can carry a combat load of 1.8 kg. The company emphasizes that this model demonstrates the greatest efficiency due to its relatively short operating range. After all, the greater the distance, the higher the risk of breaking the fiber.
Designed for use on the front lines of combat zones to destroy equipment and manpower. An additional 5 kilometers of fiber has reduced the payload by 300 grams.
It has a 20 km fiber optic coil and is suitable for destroying enemy guns, mortars, and electronic warfare systems. The drone is equipped with two battery packs.
This model is powered by a single 8S3P 13,500 mAh battery pack, while the 20-25 km versions use two such packs. The reduction in the number of batteries has increased the combat payload.
The drone can carry the largest payload in the line – 2.2 kg over a distance of up to 10 km. They can be used to fight off enemy attacks, operate on the front lines, and during urban combat.
The manufacturer notes that the entire line of five UAVs is designed to fly at altitudes of up to 500 m at speeds of up to 70 km/h. However, during testing, some models successfully unwound the coil at speeds of up to 143 km/h.
The drones are equipped with special quick-release mounts allowing the structure to be assembled and disassembled without ties. They also have legs for safe takeoff, landing, and waiting in ambush.
It is noted that, if necessary, REBOFF coils can be connected to existing 10- and 13-inch radio-controlled drones from other manufacturers, thus converting them into fiber optic drones. 3DTech is preparing to codify drones with coils already at 25 and 30 km.
