Diehl Defence has unveiled its new IRIS-T SLM/X air defense system at Enforce Tac 2026.

The system was presented on February 24 during the German defense exhibition, according to Army Recognition.

Its main feature is a universal eight-cell launcher that can carry and fire both SLM medium-range missiles and the new long-range SLX interceptors from the same platform.

The introduction of the SLX variant significantly expands the system’s capabilities: the engagement range has increased to 80 km, while the maximum interception altitude has reached 30 km.

Meanwhile, the SLM missile remains effective against targets at distances of up to 40 km and altitudes of up to 20 km, enabling layered defense within a single fire unit.

The SLX missile can be integrated into already deployed IRIS-T SLM systems without the need to replace radars or command units, simplifying logistics and personnel training.

Development of the new missile is currently ongoing, with prototype testing scheduled for 2029, provided funding is secured on time.
