Starting January 1, Ukrainian military units will be able to purchase components for the modernization of drones at the expense of the general fund.

This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

Previously, units could only purchase parts for drones from a special fund.

The purchase of new components is necessary for the military to update and adapt unmanned systems to the real needs of a particular area of the frontline.

“Greater financial flexibility allows units to purchase additional components and accessories for drones and better adapt the equipment to specific combat missions – without unnecessary delays and bureaucracy,” the defense ministry said.

They explained that previously, units could purchase components for drones only for money from a special fund.

This limited the flexibility needed to respond to the constantly changing situation and tactics of using drones.

Therefore, starting in 2026, components can be purchased using all state funding for the unmanned systems unit, including the general fund.

The general fund of financing a military unit is the main part of its budget, which covers its economic expenses for the maintenance of the unit at the expense of funds allocated in the state budget, unlike a special fund that finances exclusively targeted programs.
