Norway allocates up to $13.7 million for maintenance in Poland of Leopard 2A4 tanks transferred to Ukraine.
The Norwegian Ministry of Defense stated this in a statement.
“The war in Ukraine continues with high intensity. Norway has provided critical material to Ukraine to support them in their fight against Russia. We and our allies are clear about our long-term support for Ukraine. Ukraine can count on Norway’s steadfast support,” says Defence Minister Bjørn Arild Gram.
Over the last months, Norway has transferred military aid worth about NOK 1 billion to Ukraine.
The support includes artillery shells, anti-tank weapons, minesweepers and support for the maintenance of tanks. Among the donations were 5,000 M72 anti-tank missiles and artillery shells.
This winter’s limited scope of donated artillery shells was a critical interim support until deliveries from the Czech initiative commences. Norway’s contribution there includes up to $153 million.
In addition, Norway is actively helping train Ukrainian sappers.
“To operate safely and effectively, the Ukrainian Defense Forces need to clear large areas of mines. Norway participates in the training of Ukrainian demining soldiers in Lithuania. The training is a collaboration between the Nordic countries. This winter, we have also donated three deminers on Leopard 1 tank chassis,” says Defence Minister Gram.
Militarnyi previously reported that Norway was preparing to deliver 22 F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine as part of an air coalition.
Some of them can be used as a donor of spare parts for the repair and maintenance of other Norwegian F-16s that will be transferred to the Ukrainian Air Force.
In addition to the aircraft themselves, Ukraine can also receive jet engines for fighter jets, auxiliary materials, training equipment, spare parts, and other equipment from Norway.
It was also reported that Norway, along with its Danish and Dutch partners, was preparing to provide Ukraine with F-16 fighter jets ‘with longer-range strike capabilities.’
At the beginning of March, it was reported that the Norwegian government had joined the air defense coalition, which would support Ukraine with air defense systems, missiles, and aircraft.
In addition to joining the air defense coalition, Norway is involved in two other initiatives aimed at supporting Ukraine’s defense capabilities.
First of all, this regards the maritime coalition led by the governments of the United Kingdom and Norway and the F-16 coalition, within which Norway will transfer its F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine and begin training technical personnel and pilots.
The third one is the air defense coalition, led by the governments of France and Germany. Within its participation, the Norwegian government plans to increase the supply of NASAMS air defense systems to Ukraine.
