As of April 2023, more than seven thousand Ukrainian servicemen are considered missing.

Oleh Kotenko, the Commissioner for Missing Persons in Special Circumstances, voiced this on the air of the telethon.

According to him, this category includes both the dead, about whom there is no information, and captured.

“More than seven thousand Ukrainian soldiers are considered missing. But we count on the fact that those people we are looking for as missing persons are still captured. According to our statistics, the share of prisoners of war in this number is somewhere between 60-65%,” said Oleh Kotenko.

Exchange of prisoners of war

The last exchange of POWs took place on Sunday, April 16. Ukraine returned 130 defenders.

92 servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, 20 soldiers of the Territorial Defense Forces, 11 soldiers of the National Guard of Ukraine, 3 border guards, 2 soldiers of the Navy, and the State Transport Special Service returned home.

In general, according to the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, 2,235 Ukrainians have already been released from captivity since the beginning of the large-scale invasion.
