Security Service of Ukraine: An official of the defense facility was passing secret information to the Russian Federation

A defense official was passing on secret information about maintenance of combat aircrafts and infrastructure of the Air Force.

According to military counterintelligence, the man was collecting information on the deployment, maintenance and restoration of combat capabilities of military aviation, the Air Force Command of the Armed Forces reported.

The crime was documented by SSU counterintelligence officers together with investigators from the SSU Office in the Zhytomyr region.

The man was sending obtained information to the citizens of the Russian Federation who are suspected of cooperation with the special services of the aggressor. This refers to the brother of the detainee, who took the enemy’s side back in 2014, and now is serving in the Prosecutor’s Office of the Russian Federation, and a former collegemate.

“The information gathered by the traitor is a state secret in defense and contains data about Ukrainian warplanes, the consequences of rocket attacks on military airfields, including the extent of damage to equipment and maintenance measures,” the statement said.

The criminal was declared suspected under Art.111 part 2 (High Treason) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

The official was detained by the court. He is liable to up to 15 years of imprisonment or life sentence with seizure of property.
