The production facilities of the VNIIR-Progress plant in Cheboksary were likely struck by two FP-5 Flamingo cruise missiles.
This conclusion was reached by the CyberBoroshno OSINT analysts.
According to them, the missiles were detected by radar systems and local residents mainly at the beginning of their flight path and immediately before reaching the target. This may indicate the use of routes bypassing large population centers and areas with dense radar coverage.
Using the OCHI AI system, CyberBoroshno specialists analyzed the missiles’ flight paths. They determined that the missiles flew over a significant number of Russian regions, with reports of their passage appearing in local information channels.
Based on open-source data, analysts estimate that about five missiles were involved in the attack. According to available information, two were shot down while approaching Chuvashia, and another was intercepted near the facility in Cheboksary. As a result, two missiles likely reached the target.
Significant damage has been recorded on the enterprise’s premises, but satellite imagery that would allow an assessment of the scale of the destruction and identification of the affected facilities is not yet available.
VNIIR-Progress produces GNSS receivers and antennas for the GLONASS, GPS and Galileo satellite navigation systems used by the Russian military.
In particular, the company manufactures Kometa-family modules, which are widely used in drones, including Shahed-type kamikaze drones, as well as in Iskander-M and Kalibr missiles and UMPK guidance kits for aerial bombs.
The plant is located in the Chuvash Republic, about 1,000 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.
Analysts also drew attention to the company’s protective measures. To counter drone attacks, Russian forces installed special towers with suspended nets on the plant’s grounds designed to intercept kamikaze drones.
This is not the first reported FP-5 Flamingo cruise missile attack on VNIIR-Progress. A similar strike on the enterprise was recorded in early May 2026.
The plant has also been targeted repeatedly in the past. After an attack on February 18, 2026, a fire broke out on its premises. Following a strike on June 9, 2025, the enterprise temporarily suspended operations. It was attacked again by drones on July 5 and November 26, 2025.
