FT: Xi Told US President Putin May “Regret” Invading Ukraine

Chinese President Xi Jinping told US President Donald Trump during a meeting in Beijing that Russian President Vladimir Putin could one day “regret” launching the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

According to the Financial Times, citing sources familiar with the US assessment of last week’s visit, the comment was made during broader talks on global issues, including Russia’s war against Ukraine.

Sources told the newspaper that Xi’s remarks about Putin were noticeably harsher than in the past. One source noted that during Xi’s previous meetings with former US President Joe Biden, he had never made similar comments about Putin or Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine.

During the Beijing talks, Donald Trump reportedly suggested that the United States, China, and Russia work together against the International Criminal Court, arguing that the three countries share common interests.

Neither Beijing nor Washington has officially commented on the details of the conversations. The White House issued only a brief summary of Trump’s visit, his first to China since 2017.

Chinese components

Chinese-made components have become the most common foreign electronics found in Russian Shahed-type attack drones, replacing American parts. Their share has reportedly risen to 65%.

According to the analytical division of the Research Institute of Defense Intelligence of Ukraine, Chinese companies often do not develop original products but instead manufacture exact copies of European microchips.

This allows Russia to easily replace components without changing the weapon system’s overall design architecture.

Sanctions

The United States has imposed sanctions on several Chinese satellite system operators for selling satellite imagery to Iran.

Those sanctioned include Meentropy Technology (Hangzhou) Co. Ltd, also known as MizarVision, which specializes in geospatial intelligence. The sanctions also target Chang Guang Satellite Technology Co., Ltd., which is accused of collecting satellite images of US and allied military facilities to fulfill Iranian requests during Operation Epic Fury.
