The Pentagon might double the number of HIMARS systems transferred to Ukraine. This would regard the supply of 4 more weapons systems.

This was reported anonymously by officials of the US Department of Defense, writes Politico.

The decision is not final and will be made with regard to the Ukrainian needs. The necessary consultations are already being conducted.

“The decision will be “based on Ukrainian immediate needs,” the official said.

The number of additional systems is also being discussed – it could change at the last minute.

Earlier, the Pentagon stated that the transfer of HIMARS systems to Ukraine was only the beginning.

Colin Kahl, Under Secretary of Defense for Policy, announced this during his speech at the CNAS National Security Conference.

“We have carried out the “initial” transfer of HIMARS systems, and while we are talking right now, Ukrainians are completing their training (on mastering these systems – ed.),” – said the Pentagon representative.

He noted that the U.S. Defense Department expects the systems received by the Armed Forces of Ukraine to be brought into operation soon.

M142 HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket System) uses a 6-wheel chassis of an M1140 FMTV tactical truck.

The system can be used as a rocket launcher with ammunition of different ranges, and as a tactical missile system.
