Ukrainian Missiles Attack Area Near Volgograd Oil Refinery

In the early hours of September 11, the Russian city of Volgograd underwent a missile and drone attack, with a local oil refinery possibly being the target.

The governor of the Volgograd region reported the attack.

It is difficult to visually confirm damage to the facility so far. However, local residents reported explosions and danger in the Krasnoarmeysky district of the city, where the Volgograd Oil Refinery is located.

According to the governor, a residential building was damaged in the Krasnoarmeysky district, injuring two people. Russian authorities also reported that an industrial facility was damaged by missile debris but did not disclose its name or the extent of the damage.

Reuters noted that the Volgograd Oil Refinery, one of Russia’s largest oil refineries, is located in the area. The agency refused to independently confirm that the refinery was hit.

The Volgograd Oil Refinery is owned by Russian company Lukoil. In 2024, the facility processed about 13.7 million tonnes of crude oil, accounting for approximately 5.1% of Russia’s total oil refining volume.

The refinery has already been targeted by Ukrainian strikes several times. After an attack in November 2025, the facility completely halted operations due to damage to its primary crude oil processing unit and hydrocracking complex.
