Ukrainian Drone Strike on TANECO Threatens 52% of Oil Refinery Capacity

As a result of the Ukrainian FP-1 drone strike on the TANECO oil refinery in Nizhnekamsk on September 13, the refinery’s largest crude oil distillation unit, ELOU-AVT-7, was hit.

Its capacity is 9.2 million tonnes of crude oil per year, accounting for approximately 52% of the facility’s total primary refining capacity. ELOU-AVT-7 is responsible for crude oil preparation and its separation into fractions for further processing. It consists of an electro-desalting unit, furnaces, and atmospheric and vacuum distillation columns.

Disabling this unit could prevent the refinery from processing more than half of the crude oil it is designed to handle. Materials on the implementation of a monitoring system at TANECO describe ELOU-AVT-7 as the facility’s most complex and critical unit.

As Militarnyi previously reported, the attack on the Nizhnekamsk oil refinery in Tatarstan took place overnight on September 13, 2026. The refinery is located approximately 1,200 km from Ukraine.

The Nizhnekamsk oil refinery had already come under attack before. In particular, on August 20, 2026, drones were also reported to have struck the refinery grounds.

The TANECO facility produces gasoline, diesel and jet fuel, base oils, and marine fuel. The facility’s first processing units were commissioned in 2010–2011, after which its capacity was gradually expanded.
