Ukraine ranks fifth in Europe for defense startup founders, with 82 Ukrainian entrepreneurs building companies in the sector.
The figure comes from The State of Defence Tech 2026, a new report by Dealroom and Resilience Media.
Despite having one of Europe’s largest developer communities, and despite defense startups attracting 37% of all venture capital invested in Ukraine, the country receives a disproportionately small share of European investment.
In 2026, Dealroom recorded just $19.8 million in funding for Ukrainian companies, placing Ukraine 10th in Europe.
Since 2020, Ukrainian companies have raised a total of $46.5 million. However, according to ecosystem estimates, the actual figure could reach $100 million when deals not captured in the statistics are included.
Meanwhile, the European defense technology market is experiencing record growth of 309%, raising $7.4 billion as of September 2026.
Defense startups now account for 11.1% of the overall European venture capital market, while their share in EU countries has reached 15%.
Germany led Europe in investment volume with $3.5 billion, followed by Finland with $1.2 billion and the UK with $932 million.
Ukrainian defense tech companies are also attracting increasing amounts of U.S. capital. In particular, investor Axon invested $10 million in Buntar Aerospace and funded Farsight Vision.
Notable investors in the domestic market include Ukrainian fund Resist.UA and the Ukrainian Startup Fund.
Unmanned systems remain the main driver of the market, attracting $4.7 billion across 40 funding rounds.
Counter-drone solutions raised $1.2 billion, while maritime robotics attracted $796 million – more than in all previous years combined.
