Drones operated by the Ukrainian Defense Forces attacked the Syzran Oil Refinery in Russia’s Samara Region.
The Exilenova+ outlet published videos of the attack.
The attack took place overnight on September 14-15, 2026. The strike reportedly caused fires at three separate locations inside the oil refinery.
By early morning, only one fire remained burning at the facility. At the same time, thick columns of smoke continued to rise from three locations.
Videos filmed by local residents confirm the attack and the fire at the refinery.
Samara Region Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev also confirmed the attack.
On his official Telegram account, he reported that one of the industrial facilities was damaged in the strike, but did not specify which facility he was referring to.
However, given the nature of the attack, the facility in question was likely the Syzran oil refinery.
The oil refinery in Syzran is part of PJSC Rosneft. Its annual processing capacity is 8.9 million tonnes of crude oil, accounting for more than 3% of Russia’s total refining capacity. The refinery produces gasoline, diesel fuel, jet fuel, and bitumen.
The facility supplies fuel to the Samara, Saratov, and Penza regions, as well as to parts of central Russia.
The refinery also supplies fuel to airfields and military units of Russia’s Central and Southern Military Districts. It is located more than 800 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.
The Ukrainian Defense Forces have attacked the Russian oil refinery multiple times.
On the night of August 8, drones attacked the facility. A fire broke out at the refinery following the strike, while satellite data and subsequent analysis showed damage to several key units.
On August 4, drones also attacked the Syzran oil refinery. A fire and thick smoke were reported at the facility.
Earlier, on the night of July 12, the oil refinery was attacked as well. The targets included the AVT-5 crude oil distillation unit, where several fires were reported, and the AVT-6 unit, which also sustained significant damage. The strike destroyed several technical pipe racks at the facility.
AVT-5 and AVT-6 are the main crude oil distillation units at the Syzran oil refinery. They process crude oil and separate it into its main fractions, including gasoline, diesel, and kerosene.
