The UK has released the first images captured by the military space telescope Noctis-1, designed to monitor objects in Earth orbit.

The footage was shown in a video by the UK Ministry of Defence highlighting the development of British capabilities in space monitoring.

Noctis-1 is part of the UK’s space surveillance system, which is intended to provide more accurate tracking of satellites, debris, and other objects in Earth orbit.

A key element of this system will be the Borealis software, which the UK is developing to process data from various sensors.

The system is expected to combine information from telescopes, ground-based observation assets, and other sources to form a unified operational picture of the space environment.

This should speed up the detection of potentially dangerous objects and improve monitoring of activity in orbit.

The growing number of satellites, military platforms, and space debris makes monitoring near-Earth space increasingly important for defense planning.

The UK, like other Western nations, is expanding its space capabilities amid the military’s growing reliance on satellite communications, navigation, and reconnaissance.

The release of Noctis-1 imagery demonstrates London’s commitment to strengthening its own space surveillance and situational awareness system.

Militarnyi previously reported that China wants 203,000 satellites in low Earth orbit, compared to SpaceX’s current lead of 10,000.
