U.S. Orders Development Of Heavy Infantry Vehicle From GM Defense, Ford, And BC Customs

The U.S. Army has awarded contracts to three companies — GM Defense, Ford and BC Customs — to develop prototypes of a heavy variant of the Infantry Squad Vehicle (ISV-Heavy).

A U.S. military spokesperson reported on this, according to Breaking Defense.

Under the agreements, each developer must provide three vehicles. Delivery of all nine ISV-Heavy prototypes for testing and evaluation by Army command is scheduled for March 30, 2027.

The new development program is aimed at increasing the firepower and operational flexibility of units on the battlefield. The military has not yet disclosed the value of the agreements with the companies.

For the competition, GM Defense will offer a specialized version of the Chevrolet Silverado HD 3500 truck.

Ford, meanwhile, will submit a modified platform based on its F-Series pickup trucks.

According to the published requirements, the vehicles must accommodate six service members. They must also provide 60 kW of high-voltage direct current power, 15 kW at 28 volts, and 4.8 kW of 120-volt alternating current power.
