The U.S. Department of State has submitted certification to Congress regarding the transfer of 10 Patriot SAMs to Ukraine via Germany.
This is stated in the Congressional Record, the official journal that publishes transcripts of proceedings, debates, and documents of the U.S. Congress. The weapons are valued at $29.6 million.
Ukraine is set to receive MIM-104E GEM-T missiles designed to engage tactical ballistic and aerodynamic targets.
“Name of the Countries or International Organization Proposing to Make Such Transfer: Government of Germany,” the document states.
“The United States government is prepared to authorize this transfer, having taken into account political, military, economic, human rights, and arms control considerations,” the document states.
This is not yet a final decision: the document must be reviewed by the relevant congressional committees, after which it will be known whether the transfer will take place.
The United States had previously provided Ukraine with a small batch of these missiles as part of emergency assistance. In September, the EU allowed Ukraine to spend €6.1 billion on PAC-3 missiles for Patriot SAM systems and drones.
