The United States is handing over additional 155-mm howitzers to Ukraine.

This was reported by the Pentagon.

On Thursday, May 19, the United States announced the provision of another military package of support to Ukraine in the amount of $100 million.

“Today I announce another security assistance package that will provide Ukraine with additional artillery, radars, and other equipment that they are already effectively using on the battlefield,” said Joe Biden.

Anthony Blinken, U.S. Secretary of State has also released a statement in which he stated that the President approved the shipment of the tenth package of additional weapons and equipment for the defense of Ukraine worth up to $100 million being from the reserves of the United States Department of Defense.

Thus, the total military assistance to Ukraine from the United States in the form of weapons and equipment has already amounted to approximately $3.9 billion since February 24, when Russia launched a full-scale war against Ukraine.

The United States Department of Defense has released details of a new military aid package for Ukraine.

“The capacity of this package is designed to cover the critical needs of Ukraine for today’s struggle when Russian troops continue their offensive in the East of Ukraine,” the Pentagon said.

The military aid package covers the provision of:

• 18 155-millimeter howitzers;
• 18 tactical artillery tractors;
• three counter-battery radar stations AN/TPQ-36;
• field equipment and spare parts.

Judging by the previous transfers to the Armed Forces of Ukraine of artillery weapons from the United States, most likely, the new batch of weapons will include М777 towed howitzers.

Upon implementation of this aid package, the total number of howitzers М777 in the Armed Forces of Ukraine will amount to 108 units from the United States and another 10 from Australia and Canada. Ukrainian gunners are already using these howitzers at the frontline.

Weapons from different countries are arriving in Ukraine to assist the Defense Forces in their fight against the Russian invaders.

М777 is a 155-mm caliber howitzer with manual loading and a firing rate of up to five rounds per minute. Depending on the type of projectile used, the howitzer has a firing range of 24 to 30 kilometers.
