A Russian aircraft dropped an air-launched bomb on a highway in the Belgorod region, but a criminal case was opened against the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The bomb fell on April 8 in the Yakovlevsky District, landing in front of a car driving along the Tomarivka–Rokytne highway. A 36-year-old local resident was hospitalized with injuries.

Now, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has announced that it will “investigate a crime” allegedly committed by the Armed Forces of Ukraine in connection with the bomb incident.

Immediately after the event, the regional governor claimed it was a drone attack. However, local social media users shared a video from Russian soldiers confirming that it was indeed an aerial bomb that fell on the road.

The munition did not explode but created a crater in the road.

Eyewitnesses reported that emergency services prohibited local residents from photographing the scene or posting any information on social media to “avoid destabilizing the situation.”

The administration of the Yakovlevsky District warned local residents about the road closure immediately after the bomb fell, citing “ongoing work” without providing an explanation.

The main tactical aircraft used to carry out missile and bomb strikes on Ukrainian positions along the front line and in border areas are Russian Su-34s. These aircraft regularly drop bombs on Russian territory by mistake.

According to information obtained by Astra, at least 50 bombs (44 FABs and 6 bombs with UMPK kits) and three missiles have fallen from Russian aircraft onto Russian territory and temporarily occupied areas of Ukraine since the beginning of 2025. In 2024, 165 Russian bombs fell on these territories. The types of aircraft that “lost” these munitions were not specified.
