Satellite imagery showed that a Defense Forces strike on May 15 disabled 90-100% of the Ryazan refinery’s oil processing capacity.
The images and analysis were published by the Dnipro OSINT.
The new higher-resolution images revealed damage not visible in earlier imagery. In particular, they showed multiple hits on the AVT-4 and AVT-3 primary crude distillation units. Three oil product storage tanks between the two units were also destroyed.
Together with previously known damage to the ELOU-AVT-3, ELOU-AVT-6, and AVT-1 units, this indicates the shutdown of 90-100% of the refinery’s processing capacity.
The Ryazan refinery is part of Rosneft. It is one of Russia’s largest oil refining facilities, with a processing capacity of about 17 million tons of oil per year.
The refinery produces all grades of motor gasoline, diesel fuel, aviation kerosene, fuel oil, liquefied gases, bitumen, and petrochemical feedstock. The facility is the main supplier of motor fuel for regions surrounding the Russian capital.
According to Reuters news agency, refineries in Moscow and Ryazan suspended operations following recent Ukrainian drone strikes.
