Soldiers of the Juozas Vitkus Engineer Battalion have reinforced the border at several inactive checkpoints with Belarus and Russia using dragon’s teeth anti-tank obstacles.
The Lithuanian Armed Forces reported on this.
The anti-tank barriers have been placed at unused checkpoints, including Šumskas, Lavoriškės, Raigardas, Latežeris, at the border with Russia – Rumšiškės, and in several other areas.
As the Lithuanian Armed Forces notes, these actions are not related to the Russia-Belarus Zapad 2025 military exercises. Rather, they are part of a long-term mobility deterrence plan aimed at reducing the possibility of military equipment physically entering Lithuania from Belarus and Russia.
“Together with other government agencies, we will continue to assess other important border areas where mobility will also be restricted in the future,” the department stated.
In early August, Estonia installed similar anti-tank barriers on the bridge over the Narva River, which connects the Estonian city of Narva with the Russian town of Ivangorod.
These measures are part of a large-scale project to engineer the border between Estonia and Russia. In addition to the barriers, the Estonian government has also decided to build a line of defense consisting of approximately 600 concrete bunkers to repel potential Russian aggression.
