Russians have shown a version of the Shahed kamikaze drone with a jet engine localized by the local military-industrial complex.
The video was published by one of the Russian propaganda Telegram channels.
The footage shows the launch of a drone similar to the Shahed-238, which is likely to be locally designated as the Geran-3.
It is noticeable that the Russian modification differs in the design of the air intake and a different type of engine. In addition, the new version may have a reinforced nose section.
There is reason to believe that the Geran-3 or its modification has already been used to strike Kyiv. In general, the first mention of the presence of this drone by the Russians appeared in February 2025.
Iran officially unveiled the Shahed-238 jet strike UAV in November 2023.
The presentation took place as part of an exhibition of the Iranian Ashura University of Aerospace Sciences and Technology, where three modifications of the drone with different guidance systems were demonstrated.
In addition to the basic version with inertial navigation and GPS, versions with infrared/optical and, probably, radar guidance systems were presented.
According to the American analytical media The War Zone, the likely engine of the Shahed-238 is the TEM Tolue-10, an Iranian copy of the Czech PBS TJ100 turbojet engine, which was previously identified on several Iranian cruise missiles.
Russian propaganda media, citing a comment by a Major General of the Russian Armed Forces, claimed that the Shahed-238’s top speed could reach 800 km/h. However, these characteristics have not been officially confirmed.
Probably, when localizing the production of new kamikaze drones, Russian designers made changes to the design and installed a different type of engine, as was already practiced in previous versions of the Geran drone.
According to Russian propaganda sources, the Geran-3 is 3.5 meters long, has a wingspan of three meters, and a maximum flight altitude of 9.1 kilometers.
The drone’s flight time is estimated to be up to two hours, and its takeoff weight has increased to 380 kilograms, which is significantly higher than the 250 kilograms of the previous Geran-2 model.
