On the night of May 5, Ukrainian forces hit the Russian defense plant VNIIIR-Progress in Cheboksary with an FP-5 Flamingo cruise missile.

Exilenova+ and Dnipro OSINT ⟨Harbuz⟩ reported the strike.

Locals shared videos and photos showing a massive explosion and a subsequent fire.

The use of missiles for this strike was also confirmed by local authorities. A missile alert was issued in the region overnight, and sirens sounded in the city.

OSINT analysts, after reviewing available footage online, confirmed that the building of this Russian military enterprise was hit.

Astra reports that, for the first time in Russia, a missile alert was issued 2,000 kilometers from the border with Ukraine – in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous district. Overall, missile alerts were announced last night in 18 regions of the aggressor country, and 18 airports imposed flight restrictions.

In the morning over the city of Cheboksary, witnesses observed Ukrainian Lyutyi strike drones in flight and Russian air defense in action. It is likely that they are attacking the defense plant again.

The plant is located about 1,000 kilometers from the state border of Ukraine, in the Chuvash Republic. It is part of the production association ABS Electro.

The enterprise produces GNSS receivers and antennas for the Russian army for the GLONASS, GPS, and Galileo satellite systems, including Kometa-type modules, which are actively used in drones, including Shahed-type kamikaze drones, as well as in missiles of the Iskander-M and Kalibr systems, and in UMPK guidance kits for bombs.

VNIIIR-Progress also produces electrical engineering equipment: automatic circuit breakers, relays, and contactless modules, which are supplied to the Russian navy, including for Yasen-M class nuclear submarines.

Ukrainian long-range strike drones have attacked this Russian defense plant multiple times.

Specifically, on February 18, a fire broke out there after the strike. Last year, following the attack on June 9, the plant temporarily halted its operations. The enterprise was then attacked again by drones on July 5, 2025. Another strike occurred on November 26.
