Flamingo Missile Strikes Kometa Antenna Manufacturer VNIIR-Progress in Cheboksary

The FP-5 Flamingo cruise missile struck the Russian defense enterprise VNIIR-Progress in Cheboksary, Chuvash Republic, on the morning of June 10, 2026, according to Astra.

Witnesses reported hearing the missile fly over the city before it hit the facility.

VNIIR-Progress manufactures navigation and guidance equipment for the Russian military, including GNSS receivers and antennas used with the GLONASS, GPS, and Galileo satellite navigation systems.

The plant is known for producing Kometa anti-jamming navigation modules, which are used in Shahed-type attack drones, Iskander-M and Kalibr missiles, and UMPK glide kits that convert conventional bombs into guided munitions.

The plant is located in the Chuvash Republic, approximately 1,000 kilometers from Ukraine’s state border, at coordinates 56.103191731855055, 47.26405753184066.

Following the impact, a powerful explosion was reported in the city, and a thick plume of smoke rose into the sky. According to an analysis of photos and videos by Astra, the strike appears to have hit the area of the enterprise’s main building.

Astra also notes that, to protect the facility, Russian forces had installed towers fitted with suspended netting designed to intercept kamikaze drones.

It is worth noting that this was not the first Flamingo cruise missile attack on the enterprise. A similar strike was reported in early May 2026.

At the time, local residents shared videos and photos of the aftermath of the strike, showing a powerful explosion followed by a fire.

Local authorities also confirmed the use of missiles in the attack. A missile alert was declared across the region overnight, and air-raid sirens were activated in the city itself.

The facility has been targeted on multiple occasions. On February 18, a fire broke out after a strike on the plant. Following an attack on June 9 of the previous year, the factory temporarily suspended operations. The enterprise was then attacked again by UAVs on July 5, 2025, and another strike was recorded on November 26.
