Russian Cruise Missile Entered Poland and Crashed

During Russia’s attack on Ukraine, a Russian cruise missile flew nearly 100 km into Poland, where it either crashed or was shot down in Lublin County.

This is based on an analysis by monitoring groups and reports from local residents.

At 4:40 a.m. on July 30, 2026, the monitoring communities eRadar and Strategic Aviation simultaneously reported a cruise missile over Polish territory.

An hour earlier, at 3:16 a.m., the Polish Armed Forces Operational Command announced that it had scrambled military aircraft in response to Russia’s missile attack on Ukraine. This is standard procedure in such situations.

“These actions are preventive in nature and are aimed at ensuring and protecting Polish airspace, particularly in areas adjacent to the threatened zones,” the Operational Command said.

According to Strategic Aviation, the cruise missile was over Lublin Voivodeship, which borders Ukraine’s Volyn region, at 4:40 a.m.

At 5:58 a.m. Kyiv time, the news outlet Lublin112 reported a powerful explosion that woke residents of the village of Targowisko in Lublin County.

Emergency responders, police, and a military helicopter were dispatched to the scene. In a field near the village of Tarnawa-Kolonia, authorities discovered a crater believed to be the impact site of the Russian cruise missile.

The site is located approximately 95 km (59 miles) from the Ukrainian border.

An air raid alert for residents of Lublin and other cities in Lublin Voivodeship was issued at 3:50 a.m. Polish journalist Piotr Kozłowski of RadioZET.pl wrote on X at 6:16 a.m. that the alert had lasted for more than an hour and a half. He requested comment from the Polish Armed Forces Operational Command and the Government Security Center, but received no explanation for the alert.

At 8:07 a.m. Kyiv time, an official statement was released by the Polish Armed Forces Operations Command. According to their data, at approximately 3:29 a.m. Polish time, one of the aerial targets approached within 5 km of the border with Poland. At 3:40 a.m., it was detected moving westward over Polish territory. A standby F-16 was dispatched to identify and intercept it. At 3:46, the object disappeared from radar.

Not the First Cruise Missile in Poland

This is not the first time a cruise missile has entered Polish territory since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. In 2023, a Kh-55 cruise missile flew several hundred kilometers across Poland before crashing near the city of Bydgoszcz.

In early July, the Polish news outlet Onet, citing sources in the intelligence services and diplomatic circles, reported that Poland could become the target of Russian provocations aimed at testing NATO’s resolve. The possible scenarios mentioned included strikes on critical infrastructure.
