The Security Service of Ukraine (SSU) detained an Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation (FSB) agent who planned to direct a Russian missile strike against an Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) repair battalion that restores unmanned aerial systems, SSU reported.
According to investigators, the mobilized serviceman provided a Russian intelligence service with information about the positions of his unit, which was carrying out the relevant work.
Before the planned strike, he was supposed to leave the military facility under the pretext of going to a hospital.
SSU counterintelligence officers detained the agent in a staff vehicle after he left the military unit.
At the same time, law enforcement officers took measures to secure the positions of Ukrainian troops.
According to the SSU, the man was recruited by FSB operatives before his mobilization. They used his relative, who lives in Russia, to establish contact with him.
After being drafted, the agent served as an electrician responsible for repairing unmanned systems.
At the same time, he collected information for the Russian intelligence service on the locations of his and adjacent units.
During a search, investigators seized five smartphones the suspect used for encrypted communications with his Russian handlers.
Militarnyi previously reported that law enforcement officers detained two residents of the Lviv region suspected of carrying out a terrorist attack near the administrative building of the Stryi District Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center on September 17.
