Russia is planning strikes using drones and missiles against countries that support Ukraine, including Poland.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that similar threats had been discussed before, but the information is now compelling, Euronews reports.
“There is a real risk that the territory of one or several NATO countries on the eastern flank may be entered by drones or other types of missiles, which may even cause destruction,” Donald Tusk stated.
The aggressor reportedly plans to portray potential strikes on the territory of European allies as ‘accidental’ in order to paralyze or weaken NATO members’ motivation to respond to aggression.
The main goal of such actions is to undermine the Alliance’s overall cohesion and convince allies that Article 5 on collective defense is more theoretical than practical.
The Russian Kh-101 cruise missile that entered Polish airspace in late July may have been deliberately programmed to follow such a route.
Before the strike, the missile performed a characteristic ‘pop-up’ maneuver and hit the ground almost vertically.
