Russian Armed Forces Receive Batch of T-90M and T-72B3M Tanks From Uralvagonzavod

The Russian corporation Uralvagonzavod has delivered a batch of new T-90M Proryv tanks and upgraded T-72B3M tanks to the Russian Army.

This was reported by the corporation’s press service.

The manufacturer noted that the combat vehicles feature enhanced all-around protection against drones.

The tanks in this batch also have upgraded armor components and other improvements designed to increase survivability on the battlefield.

Before being sent to the Russian occupation army, every T-90M and T-72B3M undergoes testing. Specifically, the tanks must travel at least 100 km, after which their armaments, systems, and navigation equipment are inspected.

The corporation does not disclose the exact number of vehicles delivered, but only publishes footage of them being shipped from the factory on railcars.

These vehicles are extensively modernized versions of Soviet tank platforms equipped with a 125 mm smoothbore gun. They are distinguished by the placement of their reactive armor and a suite of new systems.

The T-90M Proryv is currently the most advanced mass-produced Russian tank. It is a major upgrade of the base T-90, which has been fitted with a new welded turret. The tank also differs from Soviet-era vehicles, notably in its machine gun mounted in a remotely controlled combat module on the turret.

During the Russian full-scale invasion, the Ukrainian Defense Forces have already captured and destroyed Russian T-90M Proryv tanks and various modifications of the T-72.

In particular, in July 2026, a T-72B3A tank equipped with the Arena-M active protection system (APS), modernized to counter FPV drones, was struck by Ukrainian UAVs.

This was the first publicly known combat use of this system, but it failed to function. In total, a column of ten Russian tanks was attacked near the village of Maiak in the Donetsk region.

Despite battlefield losses, Russia is trying to maintain its tank numbers. Last year, analysts from the Conflict Intelligence Team suggested in their study that Russia may produce up to 300 T-90M tanks annually.
