Romania’s top defense authority has approved a US request to use air bases to support military operations against Iran.
The Associated Press reported on this.
Romanian President Nicușor Dan said the agreement would allow for the temporary deployment of troops and military equipment to refuel aircraft and use defense equipment, including satellite communications and monitoring systems.
The United States recently asked Romania to host fighter jets and troops at the Mihai Kogalniceanu Air Base.
To this end, the President convened a meeting of the Supreme Council of National Defense on Wednesday, with an agenda that included “analysis of the temporary deployment of military capabilities on Romanian territory.”
Mihai Kogalniceanu Air Base is considered strategically important and capable of servicing a significant number of aircraft. The base is located only 20 km from the Black Sea coast, 300 km from Odesa in a straight line, and 400 km from Sevastopol in Russian-occupied Crimea.
Prior to this, Spain did not allow the US to use its military bases for strikes against Iran.
