The Netherlands has transferred a batch of 60 Toyota Hilux pickup trucks to Ukraine, intended for the Unmanned Systems Forces.

The Royal Netherlands Army announced this, noting that the vehicles were loaded onto rail transport last Friday.

These are multi-purpose pickup trucks that, upon arrival in Ukraine, will be transferred to units of the Unmanned Systems Forces specializing in the use of unmanned platforms in the war against Russia.

About 30 military personnel from the Dutch Army’s Phoenix OOCL Operational Support Command were involved in the logistics operation, ensuring the vehicles were loaded in Vriesven.

All 60 vehicles are Toyota Hilux pickups, which are widely used in military configurations due to their high off-road capability, load capacity, and ease of maintenance.

These vehicles can perform a wide range of tasks—from transporting personnel and equipment to serving as mobile platforms for specialized equipment.

In particular, the pickups can be equipped with target-detection systems, electronic-warfare capabilities, or other modules, depending on the needs of a specific unit.

The Dutch side emphasized that the final decision regarding the configuration and method of use of the vehicles will be made by the Ukrainian Unmanned Systems Forces Command.

The Ukrainian Unmanned Systems Forces are a separate branch of the military responsible for the development and deployment of unmanned aerial, ground, and maritime platforms.

For such units, mobile transport is a critically important element, as it ensures the rapid movement of crews, communications equipment, antenna systems, and mobile command posts.

The Toyota Hilux pickup has long been one of the most common platforms in modern conflicts due to its ability to adapt quickly to a range of combat missions.

“The delivery of this batch will enhance the mobility of Ukrainian units working in the field of unmanned technologies, which have become one of the key tools of modern warfare,” the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine noted.

The Netherlands recently transferred F-16 simulators to Ukraine.

It was also recently reported that the Ministry of Defense will purchase 5,000 pickup trucks for the Armed Forces of Ukraine through an open tender.
