NATO to Launch AI-Powered System to Track Russian Forces From Finland to Romania

NATO is developing a new defense initiative codenamed EFDI (Eastern Flank Deterrence Initiative), which includes the creation of a unified digital system to track the movement of Russian forces in real time.

This was revealed by documents obtained by BILD journalists. The main goal of the program is to deter aggression from the Kremlin and prevent a possible attack on NATO member states. The project involves the full digitalization and integration of monitoring systems along the Alliance’s eastern borders, from Finland to Romania.

Satellites, reconnaissance drones, ground robotic systems and other platforms will be used to collect information and monitor Russian forces. The received data will be processed using artificial intelligence, which will analyze Russian actions and predict further movements.

All analytical reports and target coordinates will be simultaneously available to NATO member states. The military will be able to quickly determine which country has the most suitable systems to engage targets or suppress enemy forces.

In the event of an attack by Russian equipment, the system will automatically combine radar and satellite data to provide commanders with a complete picture of the battlefield. This will allow them to select the most effective weapons systems as quickly as possible, including long-range artillery, drones or missile systems.

In addition to the intelligence component, the plan provides for the creation of a special zone on NATO’s eastern flank, where the first line of defense will be held exclusively by unmanned systems and IRCs. They are expected to be the first to engage attackers and exhaust their forces before regular troops enter the conflict.

US Army spokesman Major Matt Blubaugh said in comments to the media that the latest technologies would not replace soldiers, armored vehicles or aircraft. According to him, the concept is designed to preserve the combat capability of personnel and provide commanders with additional time and an advantage in decision-making.
