More Than 3,300 km From Border: Ukrainian Defense Forces Hit Urengoy Gas Plant

Ukraine’s Defense Forces hit the Novy Urengoy Condensate Pre-Transportation Preparation Plant, located more than 3,300 km from the state border.

Dmitry Artyukhov, governor of Russia’s Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug, confirmed the strike and fire at the facility.

The strike is currently the longest-range strike to date. The facility is located in the city of Novy Urengoy in Russia’s Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. The region accounts for 80% of Russia’s gas production.

Fire Point reported its involvement in the strike. The plant was likely hit by an FP-1 drone.

The main source of smoke seen in the footage is the flaring of excess gas through flare stacks to prevent an explosion caused by damage to the equipment.

The facility is one of the region’s key gas condensate infrastructure sites.

In October 2024, Gazprom launched a new deethanization unit at the Novy Urengoy Condensate Pre-Transportation Preparation Plant, with a stated capacity of 8 million tons of feedstock per year. The plant’s combined gas condensate treatment capacity was up to 19.5 million tons per year.

The second-longest-range strike by Ukraine’s Defense Forces took place in July, when an upgraded FP-1 hit the Omsk Oil Refinery.
