Lima Electronic Warfare System Intercepted 61 Russian Kinzhal Missiles

The innovative Lima electronic warfare system helped neutralize 61 Russian Kinzhal missiles.

This was reported by the commander of the Night Watch unit, call sign Alkhimik (Alchemist), in an interview with Militarnyi.

The Lima electronic warfare system is not a traditional electronic warfare station that merely generates radio noise to jam enemy systems.

According to the manufacturer, the system uses digital suppression that combines jamming, spoofing, and a cyberattack on the missile’s navigation receiver.

According to Alkhimik, the system is capable of diverting Kinzhal missiles off course or causing them to be destroyed in flight.

“Most of the 61 missiles simply fell apart under the influence of electronic warfare,” he said.

According to him, Lima transmitted false coordinates and additional signals to the missile, which disoriented its navigation computer. As a result, the missile attempted maneuvers that were incompatible with the structural integrity of the design and broke apart.

After breaking apart, the speed of the debris dropped sharply, allowing it to be recovered with minimal damage. In this way, the specialists obtained fully functional electronics and hydraulics.

Thanks to this, Ukrainian specialists were able to conduct a detailed study of Russian missiles that had previously been considered top secret.

“We were able to activate the missile’s navigation receiver and confirm that the calculations we incorporated into the ‘Wall’ project are accurate,” said Alkhimik.

During the tests, the specialists also noted the unique features of the Comet multichannel digital antenna array. According to the commander, when the antennas are positioned sideways rather than upward, 127 times less energy is required to jam them. This, he said, is precisely what made it possible to neutralize eight Kinzhal missiles in the initial phase.

According to Alkhimik, the missiles fly at an altitude of 20–30 km: “The Kinzhal is simpler than the Iskander because its trajectory passes at a low altitude above the ground. Even in the upgraded version, it remains predictable.”
