Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces now actively use Latvian-made Rey unmanned catamaran drones.
The Latvian company NEWT21 confirmed to Militarnyi that their drones have already carried out many missions in Ukraine.
Designed for inland waterways, the Rey platform is used to transport ammunition, evacuate the wounded, and deliver other critical supplies.
“In Ukraine, it transports ammunition and picks up wounded on the way back,” a NEWT21 representative said.
Rey is a fully electric catamaran drone powered by two 3 kW electric motors.
It can reach a maximum speed of 16 km/h, with a cruising speed of 6 km/h.
At cruising speed, the drone can operate for up to 24 hours, or 3.5 hours at top speed.
The vessel is 4.5 meters long and 2.6 meters wide, with a total hull weight of under 300 kg and a payload capacity of up to 500 kg.
According to the developer, the maximum operational range is around 60 kilometers.
“It has many successfully completed missions. Recently, the Ukrainian SOF received another such drone,” a representative of NEWT21 shared with Militarnyi.
Recently, the company also presented a new surface strike drone, the Fog, at the Drone Summit 2025, highlighting a broader trend in the defense sector toward unmanned maritime systems.
Naval drones have seen increasing adoption in recent years, driven by their lower cost and reduced risk compared to manned alternatives.
Militaries worldwide are expanding their fleets with such systems as they seek new tools for logistics, reconnaissance, and offensive operations.
