Iran warns that it will strike British bases in the Chagos Archipelago if the United States launches military action in response to the nuclear deal, according to The Telegraph.

Under pressure from U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration to reach a nuclear agreement, Tehran has made it clear that any military aggression against it will lead to a retaliatory strike on the British base in Chagos, located approximately 4,000 kilometers from Iran.

“There will be no distinction between British or American forces if Iran is attacked from any base in the region or within the range of Iranian missiles,” said an Iranian military official in a comment to The Telegraph.

Meanwhile, Iranian media are actively reporting that Iran’s strike capabilities are capable of reaching U.S. bases up to 4,000 kilometers away, utilizing a combination of Shahed-type kamikaze drones and ballistic missiles.

Currently, the Naval Support Facility Diego Garcia in the Chagos Archipelago is a joint U.S.-British facility, housing U.S. strategic aircraft and British fighter jets as part of operations in the region.

Furthermore, satellite images from this week reveal the presence of four B-2 Spirit strategic bombers at the base, designed with a “flying wing” aerodynamic configuration and incorporating advanced “Stealth” technology.

On Friday, the US President warned Iran that “very bad things will happen” if Tehran did not agree to a nuclear deal.

“I recently sent them a letter in which I said: you need to make a decision — yes or no. We either talk and find a solution, or very bad consequences await Iran. I don’t want that to happen. My main advantage, and I say this not from a position of strength or weakness, my main advantage is that we resolve this with Iran. But if we don’t reach an agreement, very, very bad things await Iran,” said Trump.

Iran stands as a major power in the Middle East, with a formidable military and an active production of ballistic missiles and strike drones.

As a leading Shiite nation, Iran positions itself as the head of the so-called “Axis of Resistance” — an informal coalition that includes groups such as Hezbollah in Lebanon, the Houthis in Yemen, and various Shiite militias in Iraq and Syria.

Furthermore, in its pursuit of greater regional influence and enhanced military capabilities, Iran is advancing its nuclear weapons program, a development that has raised significant concerns among Western nations, particularly Israel.

Iran’s Nuclear Technologies

Iran began developing nuclear technologies during the 1950s under the Shah, with U.S. support as part of the “Atoms for Peace” program. After the Islamic Revolution in 1979, the program was reoriented towards peaceful purposes. However, since the 1990s, Western countries, including the U.S., have begun to suspect Iran of seeking to develop nuclear weapons.

According to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), as of early 2025, Iran has accumulated uranium enriched to 60%, a level approaching the 90% required to create nuclear weapons.

For comparison, peaceful nuclear programs typically use uranium enriched to 3-5%.

Additionally, according to unconfirmed reports, Iran is receiving support from Russia in the development of nuclear weapons. After signing a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement with Iran, the country is likely to gain much easier access to the necessary technologies.
