Finland and Sweden have signed contracts to procure the first Patria TRACKX tracked armored personnel carriers (APCs), which will undergo military trials before the launch of series production procurement.
The Finnish company Patria announced the contracts.
Finland is procuring the TRACKX along with a support package and is already in discussions with Patria regarding potential series-production deliveries. Sweden will use the vehicles for trials and capability evaluation. The value of the contracts and the number of vehicles ordered have not been disclosed.
Delivery of the first vehicles is scheduled to begin in 2027. The countries will then conduct field trials, with some of the testing planned to be carried out jointly.
The current procurement follows an agreement signed by the Finnish Defence Forces and the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) at the Eurosatory exhibition in June 2026. The agreement established the framework for cooperation between the two countries during the initial procurement and testing phase of theTRACKX.
In addition, in July, Finland, Norway, and Latvia signed a separate Letter of Intent at the NATO Summit, providing for the development of broader international cooperation around a common tracked vehicle platform. Patria thus aims to expand the program to include additional potential users and procurement partners.
The TRACKX was developed under the multinational Future Highly Mobile Augmented Armoured Systems (FAMOUS) program, co-financed by the European Defence Fund. The platform was designed as a next-generation, high-mobility-tracked vehicle optimized for operations in difficult terrain and severe climatic conditions.
The company has already tested the vehicle in deep snow, swampy and soft terrain, forested areas, and road networks. The design is also intended for operation in sandy terrain and other environments with low soil bearing capacity.
One of the TRACKX’s key features is its exceptionally wide rubber tracks and low center of gravity. The vehicle is equipped with an independent, adjustable hydropneumatic suspension for each road wheel, eliminating the need for conventional torsion bars in the hull floor and allowing the underside of the vehicle to be made virtually flat.
The vehicle has an empty weight of approximately 12 tonnes and a payload capacity of around 3.5 tonnes. Patria is positioning the platform in the 13–18-tonne gross combat weight class, with its troop compartment designed to accommodate up to 10 personnel seated in blast- and mine-resistant seats.
In the armored personnel carrier configuration, the TRACKX can be equipped with a 12.7 mm machine gun, while the platform’s design allows for the development of various specialized variants. German company Renk has also developed a new HSWL 076 transmission for the vehicle.
As Militarnyi previously reported, Patria first showcased the TRACKX during full-scale field trials in early 2026. The company positions the new platform as a potential modern replacement for light tracked vehicles of previous generations, including the M113 and MT-LB, with series production expected to begin in 2027–2028.
