Ukrainian drones attacked an oil refinery in Russia’s Samara region and a warehouse in the Leningrad region on August 4.

Fires at both sites were first reported through videos posted by eyewitnesses on social media.

After analyzing the available footage online, Militarnyi geolocated the smoke to the area of the Syzran oil refinery in the Samara region.

Shortly after 1:00 a.m., a drone alert was declared in the region. Local residents later reported hearing explosions in the city, after which a column of smoke rose above the oil refinery.

Syzran Oil Refinery

The Syzran oil refinery, located in the city of Syzran, is part of Rosneft. It has an annual processing capacity of 8.9 million tonnes of crude oil, accounting for more than 3% of Russia’s total refining capacity. Its products include gasoline, diesel fuel, aviation kerosene, and bitumen.

The facility supplies fuel to Russia’s Samara, Saratov, and Penza regions, as well as, in part, to the country’s central regions.

The oil refinery also provides fuel to airbases and military units of Russia’s Central and Southern Military Districts. It is located more than 800 kilometers from Ukraine’s border.

The Ukrainian Defense Forces’ drones have targeted this Russian oil refinery on multiple previous occasions.

In particular, during the night of July 11–12, drones struck the facility, triggering a major fire on the refinery’s grounds.

Logistics Hub

Earlier this morning, Ukrainian drones struck a warehouse facility near the settlement of Krasny Bor in the Tosnensky District of the Leningrad region.

Eyewitnesses have shared footage showing a large fire. Alexander Drozdenko, the region’s governor, confirmed that a warehouse building near the settlement had been damaged.

The strike reportedly hit a logistics hub belonging to either Wildberries or the Lenta retail chain.
