The German company Auterion has developed the Talon interceptor, which is launched from a handheld, rifle-style launcher.
The company reported that the interceptor has undergone testing by the German Army.
“Whether it’s a single drone or a swarm, Talon can take on both,” Auterion stated.
The handheld launcher enables mobile units to quickly intercept aerial targets in the field.
Talon destroys enemy drones through direct impact rather than detonating its warhead near the target.
The interceptor runs on the AuterionOS operating system.
According to the company, the drone ensures stable navigation and precise target acquisition even in the absence of a GPS signal or when subjected to powerful electronic warfare measures.
The fire-and-forget autonomous mode means that, once launched, the onboard tracking and terminal homing system carries out the interception without further operator intervention.
The exact specifications of the Talon have not been disclosed. However, the company previously unveiled a similar interceptor that is also launched from a handheld launcher.
Its interception speed reaches 60 m/s, its maximum range is 5 km, and its interception altitude is up to 2,000 meters.
The sensor’s operating range is 600 meters, and the claimed probability of hitting the target exceeds 80%. The reload time is less than 60 seconds.
The interceptor combines a high-speed glider, manufactured using 3D printing, with Auterion software. The ability to operate without a GPS signal is ensured by visual guidance during the final phase of flight.
The FLIR Boson 640 LWIR thermal imaging sensor enables the detection of targets day and night, including in low-visibility conditions.
The modular airframe, manufactured using 3D printing, simplifies mass production and allows for rapid replacement of parts in the field.
The system features a multi-tiered architecture and expands the capabilities of short-range air defense for mobile units and fixed installations within distributed command and communication systems.
The SkyBase GCS ground control station, combined with Auterion Mission Control, allows users to plan missions, track their progress, and control the system from a portable station. Mission abort and loitering functions enable the operator to maintain control over mission execution.
The German company is actively collaborating with Ukraine. Previously, Auterion and the Ukrainian company Airlogix began production of more than 5,000 drones for Ukraine.
