Ukraine has conducted tests of the B1 aerial repeater system designed for Himera tactical radio stations, the manufacturer Himera Radios announced.

The testing was carried out in cooperation with Aerobavovna, a Ukrainian company specializing in the development and production of surveillance and communications balloons.

During the trials, the repeater was elevated to altitudes of 500 and 800 meters.

According to the developers, the balloon-based repeater significantly extends communication range and reliability — particularly in conditions where conventional ground-based repeaters are difficult or impossible to deploy, such as urban areas, mountainous terrain, or any other areas where the installation of classic repeaters is technically impossible.

The elevated repeater configuration expands the radio horizon and boosts coverage. Test results confirmed stable, secure communications at a range of up to 32 kilometers.

Encryption is maintained, and the system can operate continuously for up to 14 days without the need to bring the balloon back to ground level for recharging.

“The minimum gain is doubling the coverage radius; the maximum is enabling new levels of command, coordination, and life-saving capabilities,” the company said in a statement.

Integration With Situational Awareness Systems

Himera’s G1 PRO radio stations have recently been integrated into Ukraine’s Kropyva battlefield management system.
The integration uses the Teneta digital modem, developed to ensure secure data transmission between networked workstations even under combat conditions.

The Teneta TNT modems support the creation of mobile tactical communication networks and real-time situational awareness zones, allowing units to track the position of personnel and equipment across the battlefield.

The system is also linked to the TenetaCloud infrastructure, which handles the aggregation, processing, and routing of telemetry, geolocation, and other operational data streams. This integration enables more accurate decision-making, improves unit coordination, and enhances the overall effectiveness of combat operations.
