In the northern sector, soldiers of the Hetman Ivan Mazepa Brigade repelled a Russian assault with the help of drones.

The 54th Separate Mechanized Brigade said that during the assault, two Russian assault groups of 5 soldiers each ran into Ukrainian trenches.

“The enemy’s goal was to capture the dugout,” the military said.

However, Ukrainian infantrymen stopped the invaders, and then drones arrived.

The drone operators of the K-2 Battalion were able to “tear to shreds” the enemy, most of whom were left to die on Ukrainian positions, and only one escaped.

“The invaders tried their best to gain a foothold there, sending as many of their soldiers as possible. But the UAV operators, including heavy strike drones, who worked at an atypical time of day, did their job,” the military said.

The enemy was attacking mainly with infantry in this area. However, there have also been attempts to break through on motorcycles.

“The enemy in the Siversk sector, as well as in other sectors, tries to carry out assault actions of various kinds every day. Most of the assaults involve enemy infantry,” the military said.

54th Mechanized Brigade

The 54th Separate Mechanized Brigade was formed in 2014 in Bakhmut, Donetsk region. It became a serious reinforcement of the Ukrainian army during the anti-terrorist operation.

In 2018, the brigade was joined by the K-2 Mechanized Battalion, which in a very short time distinguished itself in the war and became legendary. K2 has its own armband. On the camouflage background, there is a bat symbolizing a reconnaissance unit, as the battalion started with a small reconnaissance group.

The 54th met the large-scale invasion in Donetsk region, near Mariinka. Therefore, the brigade’s soldiers are often called the first and most desperate defenders of the city. It was still hot in this area until February 2022, so the soldiers did not feel the full-scale enemy invasion.

The drone operators of the 54th Separate Mechanized Brigade have recently received a Shark aerial reconnaissance system.
