New details and losses resulting from last year’s drone attacks on Russian military airfields have been revealed.

Kommersant reported on this.

As a result of attacks by Ukrainian long-range drones, the Russian military lost a number of airfield personnel and several strategic bombers.

The journalists of the publication learned about this from the materials of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation and the Russian Ministry of Defense, which were involved in the investigation by the Investigative Committee of Russia in the case of the in absentia charges against a Ukrainian military officer allegedly involved in these operations.

The invaders’ investigation discovered that in February-March 2022, the 383rd Regiment was formed as part of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. It was the forces of this regiment that allegedly executed drone strikes on the deep rear of the Russian Federation.

The documents available to journalists reveal new details of two attacks that took place on October 7 and December 5, 2022.

On October 7, according to the investigation documents, a UJ-22 Airborne unmanned aircraft system operated by an unidentified serviceman of the 383rd Regiment crossed the border and was remotely sent to the territory of the regular parking lot of the 3rd Squadron of Tu-22M3 supersonic long-range bombers at the Shaykovka air base in the Kaluga region.

Flying at an altitude of about 10 meters above the airfield, the UAV initiated a high explosive ordinance with ready-made cylindrical and cubic-shaped striking elements. However, despite the fact that the UAV was equipped with a powerful bomb, the explosion and the scattering of debris caused no damage “due to circumstances beyond the control of members of the organized criminal group.”

The second episode took place on December 5 last year. According to the Russian Ministry of Defense and the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation, the Ukrainian military used an unmanned Tu-141 Strizh drone converted into a missile for the strike. The drone struck the Dyagilevo air base, where the bombers were stationed, early in the morning.

The investigation materials state that the Strizh drone attack resulted in the deaths of three servicemen and injuries to seven others. In addition, the UAV explosion damaged three Tu-22M3 bombers stationed at the airfield, one Kh-32 air-launched cruise missile, two ZIL vehicles, a civilian car, and two buildings of the squadrons’ engineering and aviation services.

Militarnyi covered the attack of Ukrainian drones on December 5, when it was reported that only one aircraft was damaged. The names of three Russian soldiers, including a major, were also published.
