In upcoming talks with Russia, the EU may demand the withdrawal of Russian troops from Transnistria, Abkhazia, and South Ossetia.
Kaja Kallas, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, stated this in an interview with the European External Action Service.
The head of European diplomacy emphasized that the withdrawal of Russian troops from these regions of Moldova and Georgia is important for European security.
Furthermore, according to Kallas, Russia must not interfere in elections in other countries.
“Russia must respect international agreements in which it has committed not to attack its neighbors and to respect their sovereignty,” she stated ahead of a meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council.
Kallas also proposed extending to Russia the restrictions that may be discussed regarding Ukraine.
“If restrictions in the military sphere are demanded of Ukraine, then this must be applied equally to Russia,” she emphasized.
