The military equipment that Sweden transfers to Ukraine as part of defense assistance will be serviced in service centers abroad.
SVT Nyheter reported on this.
Swedes will also teach Ukrainians about servicing this equipment.
In total, about 60 Swedish servicemen might be involved in the development of logistics centers and maintenance of military equipment near Ukraine. This decision was made by the country’s government.
All this is included in a new Swedish military aid package to Ukraine.
Military equipment transferred by Sweden to Ukraine will be repaired and serviced in the centers.
Poland is one of the countries considered for hosting such centers.
“Of course, it is important that the military equipment we send can also be used and achieve an operational effect,” said Swedish Defense Minister Pål Jonson.
The centers should start operating at the beginning of autumn. According to preliminary estimates, about 30 Swedish specialists will be working on site. They will both work and train Ukrainian technical personnel.
It also stressed that more spare parts for military equipment from Sweden would be needed, but these are expected to be allocated as part of the next defense aid package.
Sweden transferred or plans to transfer to Ukraine 51 CV90 tracked armored combat vehicles (Stridsfordon 90), Stridsvagn 122 main battle tank, which is the Swedish version of the German Leopard 2A5 tank, Archer artillery system, and RBS 70 (Robot 70) air defense systems.
The Ukrainian military has already been trained on Swedish CV9040C IFVs at one of the training grounds in Sweden.
