Ukrainian marines used a domestically built Barracuda Uncrewed Surface Vehicle to destroy an enemy logistics boat and its crew, the Navy said.

The Ukrainian Navy’s press service reported the operation.

According to the Navy, the drone was operated by personnel of the 40th Coastal Defense Brigade of the 30th Marine Corps.

The Barracuda carried FPV drones on a specialized launcher to the sea (or the Dnipro river), after which the USVs took off and struck the enemy boat.

In addition to a transport role, the surface “drone carrier” can also function as a signal repeater.

“Modern technologies work for defense and save lives,” the Navy reported.

The Barracuda was first announced in late August; it was developed by personnel from the namesake unit of the 40th Brigade.

Developers say the modular platform can be fitted with various weapons and incorporates elements of artificial intelligence.

The released footage shows the use of mounted single-shot grenade launchers and the laying of sea mines in narrow channels between islands.

The drone can likely perform logistical tasks as well, including resupplying islands in the Dnipro river water area.

It was also reported that the Freedom of Russia Legion unit fighting for Ukraine, together with Ferrata special forces, carried out a joint operation using the Katran sea drone.

The Ukrainian Katran surface drone was used as a carrier platform for strike unmanned aerial vehicles.

That approach expands maritime operational options and increases the potential for strikes on distant targets.
