Voronezhsynthezkauchuk Petrochemical Plant Hit in Voronezh

Drones attacked the Voronezhsynthezkauchuk plant in Voronezh, Russia, overnight on September 25.

The OSINT outlet Exilenova+ reported the incident.

The attack began on the evening of September 24 and continued overnight. Local residents reported a series of explosions, while an air raid alert was issued several times in the city.

Voronezhsynthezkauchuk is a major Russian petrochemical plant specializing in the production of synthetic rubber and thermoplastic elastomers. The plant is wholly owned by the Russian petrochemical company SIBUR.

The plant produces butadiene and styrene-butadiene rubbers, as well as thermoplastic elastomers used in tire manufacturing, road construction, and roofing materials. The facility has a total annual production capacity of 226,000 tonnes of rubber and 135,000 tonnes of SBS polymers. In 2023, the plant employed around 1,500 people.

Such products have dual-use applications and can be utilised, among other things, in the production of tires and rubber components for various types of equipment. In addition, at the Voronezhsynthezkauchuk site SIBUR is building a large n-Butyllithium production facility, a component required for manufacturing the products.

A combined heat and power (CHP) plant is also located near the facility. According to an OSINT analysis by ASTRA, a Pantsir SPAAGM system position is located less than two kilometers from the facility, while a position of S-300/S-400 systems may be nearby.
