The US Army has nearly depleted its stockpiles of ATACMS and PrSM long-range precision-guided missiles during the five-month war with Iran.

Reuters reported on this.

PrSM is a family of short- and medium-range ballistic missiles developed by Lockheed Martin. Its range is 500 km, while that of the ATACMS is up to 300 km.

ATACMS missiles are gradually being phased out of production and replaced by PrSM missiles.

Reuters sources declined to specify the exact number of missiles remaining in stockpiles. Meanwhile, they expressed concern that the reduction in stockpiles could limit the country’s ability to deter Russia and China.

When asked to comment on the information regarding stockpile levels, the White House released a statement from President Donald Trump. It notes that the United States has “far more ammunition than anyone else in the world” and “far more than is needed.”

“Our defense companies are, at this moment, making more munitions than they have ever made before, in addition to expanding their plants and equipment at record levels,” Trump stated.

However, the US Army has now almost completely depleted its pre-war stockpiles of surface-to-surface missiles in the Middle East. At the same time, it is partially managing to replenish them using reserves from other regions.

The reduction in ATACMS and PrSM stockpiles reflects the administration’s decision to minimize risky strikes involving manned aircraft.

Analysts note that such missiles are particularly valuable in a potential conflict with an adversary possessing a powerful air defense system, specifically China.

PrSM stockpiles were initially limited, as this is a relatively new type of weapon. A large batch of these missiles has already been ordered for 2027, with plans to produce 400 units annually.
