Between March 9 and 15, the US recorded “several waves” of 12–15 drones operating over the air base, which houses elements of the US Air Force’s nuclear command and B-52 bombers.

ABC News reported on this, citing classified documents that journalists were able to access.

The media notes that what was initially believed to be a single unauthorized drone flight was in fact a series of illegal intrusions that occurred over Barksdale Air Force Base near Shreveport, Louisiana.

The document describes these incidents as a significant threat to public safety and national security. Federal and local law enforcement agencies are currently investigating these incidents.

These drones did not resemble commercially available models—they were high-tech, had a significantly greater range, and were resistant to electronic countermeasures.

According to a military assessment cited in the documents obtained by journalists, “unauthorized flights are likely to continue.”

Barksdale Air Force Base is home to, among others, the 2nd Bomb Wing of the US Air Force. It is equipped with 44 B-52H Stratofortress strategic bombers. The base also houses 20 B-52 bombers from the 307th Reserve Bomb Wing.

Barksdale is also the headquarters of the US Air Force Global Strike Command, which controls most of the nuclear bomber fleet and strategic ballistic missile operations.

Unidentified drones were recently detected over Fort Lesley McNeair, where US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Pentagon chief Pete Hagset reside.

According to officials, it has not yet been determined who launched these drones or for what purpose. All that is known is that several drones were spotted flying over the military base in a single night.

This incident prompted an immediate meeting at the White House to discuss possible responses. The drones over the base, located in Washington, D.C., prompted officials to consider relocating Rubio and Hegset, but for now, they remain in their residences.

Fort Lesley McNeair is located near the Capitol and the White House, but does not have the same security perimeter as other military bases in the US capital region.
