The operators of the 73rd Maritime Special Operations Center of the Armed Forces of Ukraine aimed the HIMARS system at the Russian Giatsint-S self-propelled gun.
The enemy artillery was spotted during reconnaissance operations in the southern sector.
The press service of the Special Operations Forces released a video of the destruction of the 152-mm gun.
A Ukrainian drone detected a Russian Giatsint-S at a firing position in the forest. The enemy gun was firing at Ukrainian positions.
The coordinates of the enemy target were promptly transferred to a missile and artillery unit of the Defense Forces.
The Russian self-propelled gun was hit by a GMLRS missile from the US M142 HIMARS rocket system.
“The Russian gun managed to make only a few shots. After that, it was completely destroyed by HIMARS fire,” the Ukrainian troops said.
The missile exploded over the Giatsint-S and hit it with a large number of metal balls contained in the warhead.
As a result of the strike, the Russian gun was at least heavily damaged or completely disabled.
Previously, paratroopers of the 77th Airmobile Brigade destroyed the Russian Giatsint-S self-propelled gun with the help of several FPV drones. After being hit, it started to burn and was abandoned by the crew.
The Soviet-era 152-mm Giatsint-S self-propelled gun is designed to conduct counter-battery warfare, destroy firing points and field fortification, self-propelled guns and enemy tanks.
The maximum firing range is 27,000 meters when using conventional ammunition (some sources indicate different data — 28,400 meters).
